Vehicles in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.

An important representative said the incident left him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
