Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
